How Correspondence Allotment amounts work in 2026-27
- Private school: not eligible. Alaska has no ESA or voucher for private school. Allotments go only to students enrolled in a public correspondence (homeschool) program. Choose Homeschool to see the amounts.
- Homeschool, pre-K: Usually not covered. Correspondence allotments are for grades K-12. Fairbanks BEST gives a $250 preschool scholarship when an older sibling is enrolled full time.
- Homeschool, grades K-8: $2,600 to $3,500 per child. Each correspondence program sets its own allotment. Posted 2026-27 amounts for K-8: Mat-Su Central $2,600; IDEA, Raven, CyberLynx and Alaska Homeschool (Delta/Greely) $2,700; FOCUS $2,800; Fairbanks BEST $3,000; Frontier Charter $3,500.
- Homeschool, grades 9-12: $2,700 to $4,300 per child. Each correspondence program sets its own allotment. Posted 2026-27 amounts for 9-12: IDEA, Raven and CyberLynx $2,700; FOCUS and Alaska Homeschool (Delta/Greely) $2,800; Fairbanks BEST and Mat-Su Central $3,000; Frontier Charter $4,300.
When the money arrives
- Homeschool: Your correspondence program decides when the allotment is available and sets its own purchase and reimbursement deadlines. Spending has to fit your child's approved Individual Learning Plan (ILP).
Good to know
- Amounts come from a third-party guide that collected what each program posted for 2026-27. Family Partnership and PACE hadn't confirmed 2026-27 amounts there, so ask your program for its figure.
- Alaska law requires an Individual Learning Plan for every correspondence student. Allotment purchases must support that plan, be nonsectarian and be approved by the program.
- Anything bought with allotment money belongs to the school district. Non-consumable items go back to the program if your child leaves.
- Fairbanks BEST pays $3,000 to K-12 students enrolled with an approved ILP by Oct 1, and caps technology at $499 per item.
- Correspondence students take the state tests: AK STAR in grades 3-9 and science in grades 5, 8 and 10, between Mar 29 and Apr 30, 2027.
- The Alaska Supreme Court reversed the lower-court ruling that struck down the allotment law, so allotments continue.
