How ESA amounts work in 2026-27

• Private school, pre-K, with an IEP: 2026-27 chart not posted. Preschool children with a disability can get an ESA. ADE's latest chart (2025-26) showed about $13,261 to $14,223 for a preschool severe delay; other preschool disability categories get half of the listed amount. ADE hasn't posted 2026-27 figures yet.
• Private school, pre-K, without an IEP: Not covered. Arizona's ESA covers preschool only for children with a disability. Other children can join from kindergarten.
• Private school, kindergarten, with an IEP: 2026-27 chart not posted. Kindergarten students with a disability get half of the amount listed for their disability category, so it varies widely. ADE's 2026-27 chart isn't posted yet; ask ADE for your child's estimate.

When the money arrives

• Private school and homeschool: ADE funds accounts once a quarter: Jul 15 to 31, Oct 15 to 31, Jan 15 to 31 and Apr 15 to 30 (current handbook). ADE doesn't publish how much of the year's award comes in each deposit.

Good to know

• Pre-K is covered only for preschool children with a disability.
• Open to every Arizona child who can enroll in a public school, K-12, plus preschool children with a disability.
• The award is about 90% of the state aid your child's public school would have received, so it depends on your district, grade and disability category. Kindergarten through 3rd grade and English learners can get a little extra.
• ADE hasn't posted a 2026-27 funding chart yet. The figures shown are last year's, for planning only.
• Families sign an ESA contract and agree not to enroll full time in a public school.
• Home learning: ESA students can learn at home, but they are not registered homeschoolers. Don't file a homeschool affidavit; the ESA contract takes its place.
