How LA GATOR amounts work in 2026-27

Private school, pre-K: Not covered. Students must be at least 5 by Sep 30, 2026. Children entering kindergarten can apply.
Private school, grades K-12, with an IEP: Up to $15,253 per child. Up to $15,253 for a student with a disability under federal special education law (IDEA). The exact amount is tiered by disability type, and families at or below 250% of the federal poverty level may get more on top.
Private school, grades K-12, without an IEP: $5,243 to $7,626 per child. $7,626 if your household income is at or below 250% of the federal poverty level, or $5,243 otherwise. Students who had a Louisiana Scholarship Program voucher in 2024-25 and stay at the same school keep that amount instead.
Homeschool: not eligible. LA GATOR can't be used alongside a BESE-approved home study program. Families must agree not to enroll in home study while in the program.

Private school: Funds go out quarterly, and school tuition is paid after the school reports enrollment each quarter. The program hasn't posted the 2026-27 dates or the split per quarter.

Pre-K is not covered. Students must be at least 5 by Sep 30, 2026.
Funding is very limited. News reports say the Legislature kept LA GATOR at about $44 million for 2026-27, enough for roughly 5,700 students, so most new applicants are on a waitlist.
Current students come first, then students with a disability or from families at or below 250% of the poverty level, then siblings, then everyone else.
The 2026-27 application window ran Mar 1 to 16, 2026. Returning students had to renew by Mar 16.
Money is spent through Odyssey. You can't be paid back for things you buy yourself.
The state's own LA GATOR page still labels these same amounts as 2025-26, while Odyssey's help page gives them for 2026-27.
