How ESA amounts work in 2026-27

Private school, pre-K: Check with the program. The program's FAQ doesn't say whether pre-K students can take part. Call the Office of Special Education at 601-359-3498.
Private school, grades K-12, without an IEP: IEP required. Mississippi's ESA is only for children who had an active IEP from a Mississippi public school within three years of applying.
Private school, grades K-12, with an IEP: Up to $8,421 per child. Up to $8,421 for 2026-27, paid back to you in four quarterly reimbursements for approved costs you've already paid.
Homeschool: not eligible. Home instruction programs don't count as eligible schools, and parents agree not to file a home instruction enrollment form while in the ESA.

Private school with an IEP: This is a reimbursement program. You send a request with receipts by each due date (Aug 31, Nov 27, Feb 26 and May 31) and the state pays you back. If you paid tuition for the whole year up front, it's paid back in four even parts. No lump sums. 1st quarter (25%): Sep 29, 2026; 2nd quarter (25%): Dec 17, 2026; 3rd quarter (25%): Mar 30, 2027; 4th quarter (25%): Jun 29, 2027.

Only for children with an active IEP from a Mississippi public school within the last three years, who have been accepted by an eligible private school.
Awards go first come, first served. When the money runs out, eligible students go on a waitlist and are funded in order.
Applications are taken all year. Apply December through May to hear back before school starts.
Current families don't reapply but must send a Recertification Form in the parent portal between Apr 1 and Apr 30 each year.
Your child gives up the right to free special education services from the public school district while in the program.
