When the money arrives
- Private school and homeschool: Four deposits a year: 20%, 20%, 30%, 30%. The state releases funds in mid-September, mid-November, mid-January and mid-April, and the money shows up in your account about two weeks later, so the dates below are approximate. 1st (20%): Around Oct 1, 2026; 2nd (20%): Around Dec 1, 2026; 3rd (30%): Around Feb 1, 2027; 4th (30%): Around May 1, 2027.
Good to know
- Pre-K isn't covered. Children must be 5 by Sep 30.
- Since 2025 there is no income limit, but enrollment is capped. The 12,500 seats for 2026-27 filled in August 2026 and other families went on a waitlist.
- Current EFA students, their siblings, children with a disability and families at or below 350% of the poverty line are not held back by the cap.
- The award is the state's per-pupil adequacy amount plus any extra aid your child qualifies for. The 2026-27 figures shown come from a New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute brief and match the 2% yearly increase set in state law.
- Unused money rolls over from quarter to quarter and year to year until your child graduates or leaves the program.
- Send your child's Record of Educational Attainment by Jul 15 each year, or no more funds are released until you do.
- Home learning: Parents can still teach at home. Your child becomes an EFA student under state law instead of a registered homeschooler.
